about

This dialogue should be read slowly in your mind while listening to Track 1 of Jupiter Vol 2.

*Two people whispering as they work on a delicate piece of machinery. The pace of each line is roughly 20 seconds between each line. Towards the end the pace can increase*
-----
C - You need to be careful with these knobs. Just a small turn and you can lose the whole thing…try to get one instrument first, or just get that flute clear.

V - Which knobs do what? I’m turning them, but It just sounds like a swirling mess.

C - Yeah, but hear that? What a mess though. Sounds unreal…Like all the music in one giant soup. Look, first of all slow down. there's a dial for each level of the…uh, layers. You know the old sound eq knobs right? It's like boosting highs and lows, but you're sort of moving a target to find the sound of the person who played it…if that makes sense. And If you can get all of them in tune, and you hear that resonance. Well…you gotta admit, it’s special. You heard it last time. I think we gotta try and capture it…whenever we get it again. It's like seeing a straight line shining through the air…

V - But how do you bring it all together or make it sound clear? Like it was a minute ago. These dials and levels of the…signal. They seem to be, like, unstable.

C - Of course it's unstable! You realize what we might be actually tuning into? What are we crossing over to? What are we pushing through to receive these signals?

V - I don't know. It's like swimming through sounds…Is it the music from the past? It's like seeing through some kind of fabric…like this music was hidden behind a veil.. it's Like we're hearing ghosts.

C - Maybe…hearing ghosts, or at least the music that a ghost played.

V - It's just so damn hard to keep these dials in tune when the frequencies jump around so much.

C - I know. Whatever is going on in there is a total mystery. I still barely know how to control it. When I get a strong signal there's so much luck involved.

V - I wish there was an easier way.

C - I did give you the manual though

V - Um hold on, You were holding the manual when we got on the train. Check your pockets.

C - I don't have pockets…I handed it to you because you have pockets.

V - I don't have it…we’re losing the signal, it’s all static now.

C - We need to find It, it's the only way we can ever fix this thing if it breaks.

V - Don't worry it's not going to break.

C - You don't know how old this thing is! It could be ancient! And if it breaks…
(Convo fades out) move over…let me drive for a while, you’re losing it
