The latest musical offering by percussionist Sameer Gupta along with longtime musical associates Marc Cary (keys), Pawan Benjamin (winds) and Rashaan Carter (bass) stretches his already expansive view of music informed by his dual Indian and American heritage. JUPITER is a shoe-gazer inspired vision of Indian classical music impressions and universal consciousness set across a luscious landscape of layers, long-samples of meditative Indian classical ragas and shimmering down-tempo dynamics. Born of loss and grieving for his loved ones now departed, and the impressions they have left, Gupta’s JUPITER sets a luminous tone through its interstellar improvisations woven throughout a cosmic technicolored droning landscape. The music faces towards the farthest reaches of outer space in stillness, meditating and searching to ease suffering. Acknowledging the everlasting need to embrace liberation.
